Highland Cow Chainsaw Carving
This handcrafted Highland cow chainsaw carving is full of character and unmistakable charm. Usually carved from a quarter log, it has a sturdy, grounded shape that suits outdoor spaces perfectly. Whether it’s watching over the garden, sitting proudly on a patio or welcoming visitors near an entrance, this coo brings a strong sense of presence and personality. Is it friendly – or will you have to moooove out of its way?
Each Highland cow chainsaw carving is individually hand-carved by Jonny at his workshop in Falkirk, Scotland, ensuring that no two pieces are ever exactly the same. Variations in expression, stance and grain give every coo its own identity, shaped by both the timber and the carving process. The natural form of the log plays a key role in the final design, adding weight, texture and visual interest.
With over 25 years of experience working with chainsaws, Jonny brings a deep understanding of wood, form and technique to every carving. His background in forestry and arboriculture informs how each log is selected and worked, allowing the material to guide the shape while maintaining balance and strength. Carved primarily from green wood, the piece may develop small cracks over time as it dries, a natural process that adds to the individuality and authenticity of the carving.
Designed to be enjoyed outdoors, this Highland cow chainsaw carving works beautifully as a standalone feature or as part of a wider garden display. Handcrafted in Scotland, it’s a distinctive example of chainsaw art that balances craftsmanship, humour and respect for natural materials.
Typical size: around 16 x 16 x 10 inches
